Dear Doe family,

We are thrilled to share this exciting, custom trip plan with you.

There is no city quite like Rome — and there is no better way to experience it than with the people you love most. Your itinerary includes a private guided tour of the Vatican, time at the Spanish Steps, and plenty of space for long lunches, gelato, and getting wonderfully lost.

We hope it's everything you imagined.

Warmly,

Rome

Area Overview

“Rome, a lifetime is not enough,” said Italian author Silvio Negro. Those who have stepped foot in this ancient city—whether it is one time or one hundred and one times— would certainly agree.

The Italian capital boasts an astonishing amount of iconic sights—the Coliseum, the Vatican, the Borghese Gardens, the Pantheon, the Forum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps, just to name a few. Rome’s real beauty, though, is that bewildering blend of ancient and modern interacting with each other on a daily basis: the clownishly dressed Vatican guard chatting on his iPhone; the monk strolling down a narrow cobbled lane in Trastevere wearing wireless earbuds; selfie-stick-welding tourists marching past the iconic marble stumps in the ancient Forum; the cacophony of Vespas buzzing around Piazza Venezia.

Rome is as equally modern as it is ancient; it’s as equally chaotic as it can be tranquil (especially if you know where to hide); it’s as equally astonishing as it is a workaday metropolis for locals living quotidian lives. Its restaurants are as equally fancy as they are no frills. It all gives this palimpsest of a city its particular sweetness—its La Dolce Vita—that can’t be replicated anywhere else on the planet.

Day 3

Saturday · June 9, 2029

Private Tour of Vatican City

7:00 AM · Start Time
4:00 PM · End Time

Guiseppe will meet you in the lobby at 7am sharp and will be your personal guide for the day - he is born and raised in Rome and can't wait to share it with you.

Activity overview

A few facts about Vatican City: It is the smallest country in the world. There are officially 600 citizens of Vatican City and most of them don’t live there. Vatican City didn’t officially exist until Mussolini signed the Lateran Pact in 1929, thus creating a sovereign state. St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the largest churches on the planet, was built upon the site where Peter was crucified, an ancient necropolis (Peter’s bones are still there and can be seen if you book a special tour). The clownishly dressed Swiss Guards' outfits were inspired by the work of Raphael.

Today a visit to the Vatican is nearly obligatory for tourists in Rome - and not just because of the facts above but because of the glory that is St. Peter’s Square, as well as the stunning Vatican Museums, which contain one of the best collections of art on the planet.

Tour Of The Spanish Steps

Activity overview

There once was a time when the Spanish Steps were just a set of 135 steps set a cobblestone’s throw away from the Spanish embassy in Rome. But then in the 1953 film “Roman Holliday,” actors Audrey Hepburgn and Gregory Peck frolicked on the marble staircase and American and international audiences swooned for the stairs. And since then, the set of steps has become an iconic landmark in Rome. Just don’t sit on them; since 2019, there’s a new rule enforced by police: no sitting on the steps.
